表动物的词在交际语言中发生了很大的变化，有的甚至与动物毫无关系，他们的具体意义也与我们平常的猜测会大相径庭。请看以下几例：

(1) ant蚂蚁

 (7) cat猫

You  had  better  how  the  cat  jumps  first  and  then  decide.

(8) deer鹿

He  saw  me, and   ran  away  like  a  deer.

(9)dog狗

Every  dog  has  its  day.

凡人皆有得意时。

He  led  a  dog’s  life.

You are lucky   dog.

你真幸运。

Let sleeping  dog  lie.

别惹是生非。

(10)dogs  and  cats狗和猫

It is  raining  cats  and  dogs outside.

外面正下着瓢泼大雨。

(11)donkey驴

He  spent  donkey  years  in  that   place.

 他在那个地方度过了漫长的岁月。

 (12)鸭子duck

Don’t  play  ducks  and  drakes   with  your  money.

不要拿钱去打水漂。

(13) eel黄鳝

You  can’t  catch  it  is  as  slippery  as  an  eel.   你抓不住它，狡猾得很。

(14) elephant大象

The   teacher   us   not  have  a  elephant  to  keep.

老师叫我不要背上沉重的包袱。
